PRAISE THE LORD ALL YOU NATIONS.  PRAISE THE LORD ALL YOU PEOPLE.  PSALMS 117:1

LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD AND LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF. LUKE 10:27

Vacation Bible School at Boldtville Presbyterian Church in San Antonio was a fun-filled, faith-filled 4-day event in late June. The students studied faith in action around the world. Mexico was one of the focus countries. Children learned "Hola" or "Hi" as an important word when meeting neighbors and how to put Psalms 117:1 and Luke 10:27 into practice, praising the Lord, loving Him and our neighbors.

CUPS visited on the last day and talked about schools in Mexico. The VBS children met Juan de Dios (special education), Alejandro (kindergarten), and Paulita (primary), all from schools where CUPS friends have helped with school supplies, books, and teacher materials. The best part of all, after watching the children in their final day program - was to meet so many members of the congregation who had wonderful ideas about how they might continue to help with CUPS mission in Mexico.

CUPS program to assist schools in Mexico involves over 2,500 students mostly at the kindergarten and primary school levels in rural or remote locations. We also help in rural middle schools. Help for students like Paulita included a notebook, pencils, crayons, a pencil sharpener and pair of scissors. Classrooms are enriched by the donation of books. Other enrichment materials include games to sharpen math skills or puzzles for problem solving skills.

What you can do to help our neighbors in Mexico? When can you help?  Any time you have a donation for CUPS is good time, but we have targeted specific months for Donation Campaigns. See the Donation Schedule and Donation Locations in the sidebar.

Each of our school supply packets has a label in Spanish "Para Ti. Que Dios le Bendiga. Comunidades Unidas Pro Salud and los Amigos de CUPS."  [For You. May God Bless You. Comunidades Unidas Pro Salud and the friends of CUPS]. This label also goes on our donated medical equipment before it is distributed. While it may be important for recipients to know who is giving them something, what is far more important is that each recipient feels God's love and to know that they are part of His world and that they are NOT alone, especially in these troubled times in Mexico. This simple label helps towards this effort. You help towards this effort.

SpecialSpecial News

First Presbyterian Church, McAllen launched their first recycle campaign in several local McAllen ISD schools. The results were fantastic! Some of their supplies are already in Mexico and the rest will go soon. In addition to helping CUPS and Puentes de Christo, who works in Reynosa, other valley non-profits benefited as well. This represents loads of love and goodwill for those with needs, and a lot less in our local landfill. Yeah, God!

Donations from Copperas Cove High School's DECA Club, Copperas Cove, TX were an unexpected donation when donations were organized at FPC McAllen.

The Peniel Presbyterian Church in Valle Hermoso held their Vacation Bible School the week of July 22. CUPS was able to help them with supplies for the VBS and also provided 20 school packets for children who are part of the Peniel Presbyterian Church family. Ten Bibles in Spanish were presented at the July 17 Wednesday evening praise service. One lady told Louise that she was getting a Bible for a friend, surely an example of loving one's neighbor.

Two more PETs (Personal Energy Transportation) units were placed, one in Valle Hermoso and the other in Matamoros.

Stan Marley continues to provide free storage space for CUPS donations until they are taken to Mexico.  Gracias Stan!

Our Valle Hermoso warehouse has been adopted by the family living across the street from us.  They help out in many different ways.  Their oldest son, Fernando, is particularly helpful, opening the floppy gate, unloading and pitching in to help ready school supplies for their student packets.  He is just one example of the wonderful help we receive from our Mexican neighbors.

Perhaps the most special of news of all is that you continue to support CUPS and our school programs for Mexico and for those with medical and health needs.
